Last weekend my boyfriend and I shared a romantic weekend away to the Slieve Donard Hotel and Spa. Even though it’s local and situated alongside the scenic Northern Irish coast, it never entered my head to stop by, let alone spend the night.

To celebrate our 9th anniversary together, we decided to book ourselves in for a weekend treat, taking full advantage of the Spa, bed and breakfast and a 3 course dinner. I was really looking forward to just chilling out, relaxing and enjoying a good feed with a tipple or two!

The room did not disappoint with a beautiful view of the coastline, but the real highlight had to be the little pink rubber duckie perched on top of a stack of towels in our ensuite bathroom. Dee wasn’t that enamoured, but I thought it was a delightful, cute detail. Upon arrival, I headed down to the Spa to enjoy a full body aromatherapy massage before nipping back to the room to get ready for dinner.

The food was tasty, but I’m going to be honest and say that it wasn’t spectacular. We have frequented the Galgorm before and that stay was unbelievably good with beautiful food, excellent service and the most luxurious spa that I have ever experienced. Taking that all into account, I would say that the Galgorm was actually better value for money. I ordered a prawn cocktail to our room in the Slieve Donard and it cost a ridiculous £12! The prices for dinner were also too high for the standard of food, which Dee referred to as no better than a typical Sunday roast.

We topped off our stay with a walk along the Newcastle promenade and stopped off in Cafe Mauds for a snack and beverage. It was a lovely weekend and I did enjoy our brief getaway, but if I had the choice, I would most certainly head back to Galgorm. I don’t have particularly high standards, but when you’ve experienced the best, everything else will ultimately pale in comparison. I’m just being honest.

Happy Monday! May your week be filled with positivity and good vibes. xo

It was extremely tasty! A must have on a cold, wintery day. Yes, I did indeed take the rubber ducky home. It would be rude not to!
